WHEN GOD SEEMS FAR

Have you ever been in a situation where it seems the heavens have been shut against you, God seems nowhere to be found. You’ve searched your heart to see whether there be any sin, and you’ve even prayed for a purging, but it seems God is silent.

Many tears have dropped from your tear glands, you’ve made fervent prayers, yet you do not seem to feel God’s presence. Then, you begin to wonder what has gone wrong, it is as if you can no longer hold the forth, your faith begins to feign, and the pressure is overwhelming, and you begin to ponder in your heart, wondering if God has abandoned you.

Well! I’m pleased to inform you that you are not alone. Time and time again have had such experiences, and even passing through it at the moment. There are examples of people in the Bible who have gone through this same experience.

Using David and Job as case studies, let us here what they have to say. David said “Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1). Lest we forget, David was a man whom God regarded as a man after His own heart.

Taking a look at Job, a man whom God could boldly declare to be an upright man said “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” (Job 23: 8-12).

These people who were greatly esteemed by God had times when it seemed God was far away from them, yet they kept following after him. Also, taking a look at the time and ministry of Jesus, when He was about to face the cross, He declared “my God my God, why hast thou forsaken me.”

On a final note, a song writer has this to say for situations as this “Lord you seem so far away, a million miles or more it feels today. Though I haven’t lost my faith, I must confess right now that it is hard for me to pray. But I don’t know what to say, and I don’t know where to start, but as you give the grace, with all that is in my heart, I will sing, I will pray, even in the darkest hour, in the sorrow and the pain…”

This song has been an inspiration to me personally. Remember! When the test is going on , the teacher is always there, but he is always silent. Hold on, put your trust in God, for very soon you will work out of that dark hour, and you will begin to feel His presence anew.

God bless you.

  2. Can I just say what a comfort to discover an individual who truly understands what they’re talking about over the internet. You definitely understand how to bring an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people must check this out and understand this side of your story. I was surprised that you aren’t more popular given that you certainly have the gift.
